About
I am a scholar of nineteenth-century British and American art with a particular focus on empire in its many forms. In my work, I generally approach imperialism from the perspectives of world-systems theory and historical materialism. Through close attention to form and artistic process, I am interested in how paintings figure or mediate aspects of these models on a more intimate scale. In 2025, I joined the faculty in the Department of Art and Art History at Georgetown University, where I teach modern art, modernism, and art in relation to queer and postcolonial theory. On this site are links to some of my publications & my CV. Please get in touch with me directly with any inquiries.
